Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet the members of all seven all-party delegations once they return from their international visits to promote India’s position on Operation Sindoor. The meeting with the Prime Minister may take place on June 9 or 10, according to media reports.
These delegations, which traveled around the world to explain India’s response to terrorism through Operation Sindoor, are now on their way back home. The first group, led by BJP leader Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, is returning to India today, June 3. This delegation left Delhi on May 24 and visited Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria.
Before meeting the Prime Minister, the delegations will first brief External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar starting today. The meeting with the Panda-led team is scheduled at 2:30 pm today.
The second delegation, headed by Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Jha, is expected to arrive in Delhi tonight at 9:30 pm. Another team led by Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde will return to India on June 4.
In total, seven teams were sent to 33 countries, including members of the European Union, to share India’s perspective with local leaders, governments, and the public. They spoke about Pakistan’s long-term support for terrorism and India’s strong response through Operation Sindoor.
The delegations included 59 Members of Parliament from different political parties and several former diplomats. Each group had 8 to 9 members, with a senior leader appointed to guide them.
The delegations were led by:
- Shashi Tharoor (Congress)
- Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP)
- Jay Panda (BJP)
- Sanjay Jha (JDU)
- Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK)
- Supriya Sule (NCP – Sharad Pawar faction)
- Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena)
The background to Operation Sindoor is the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, in which 26 people were killed and many others injured. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
